Help improve Home Office services

Home Office needs your help to improve and to make sure our services work well for the people who need them.

To sign up and help, you must:

• be 18 or older
• live in the UK or EU

In the UK you can choose to take part in user research in person and online. If you live in the EU, it will be online.

We may give you a voucher for taking part.

You can always say no to an invite and you can unsubscribe at any time.

What’s involved

When you sign up, you’ll get a short survey to fill in about you and how you use computers. Your answers will help make sure you get invited to research that’s relevant to you and will not be shared with anyone else.

You do not have to be good with computers or the internet to take part.

Once you’ve signed up, you might be asked to:

• try out new online transactions
• answer more questions by email
• talk to our researchers about how you’ve interacted with government in the past
• visit a government building near you
• let our researchers meet you at home or work

You can say if you’d prefer to meet researchers or do online research when you sign up.

In person

We will either ask:

• you to come to a government or public building
• to visit you at home or work

This type of research can take between 30 minutes and 1 hour.

We will ask if we can record the research. We do this to help us remember what you did and what you said. We may share the recording with other teams at Home Office, but we never share your personal details. It is up to you if you want to agree to this.

Online

We will give you an online task. You must provide your own internet connection and computer, smartphone or tablet.

This type of research can take between 30 minutes and 1 hour depending on the task.

There may be vouchers to be offered, depending on the research.

If you take part in research online, you’ll be given a task to do on a service. You do not need to travel anywhere for these sessions but you’ll need your own internet connection, computer, phone or tablet to take part. The sessions usually last 30 minutes.
